from Patty

I was raised with an awareness of many cultures. Because my Dad was a Navy pilot and later became an international airline pilot, he would return with stories and gifts from many nations. I always thought "how wonderful" that was, and wherever I go, they are part of the roots I take with me.

I have lived in and visited many towns, and the ones that seemed to be most infused with life and spirit had a tremendous diversity of people from all walks of life, and there was something intrinsic in each person that made them truly care about their town and what it meant to live there. People were allowed to be who they were, coming together with all their diversity present as a community. There is just a feeling of more fun, acceptance and caring in places like that...there's more kindness, tenderness, mercy, and sympathy...the qualities of humanity that are the heart of civilization. In a community, each person's individual roots become part of the fabric of a healthy thriving whole and that respect makes all the difference. All of us need roots for our nourishment and for our stability. A community that honors that, allows each individual to grow and be truly alive. Each person with their own unique roots and gifts is a building block for the whole community.

My music is a little Roots, a little Gypsy, and a little Protest... that came from the folk tradition of my Irish-American heritage. I love to be outdoors in nature where all kinds of magical things are occuring every minute. And, I do believe that the leprechauns must've come into being just so humans would never forget to dream, imagine, and be creative. I came from an era that thought it was on the verge of changing the course of history by transforming the world into a global community of peace. And despite the many dissapointments since then, I still carry that torch. A lot of my songs are about the human condition originating from the lives of ordinary people like myself, and are rooted in my Irish-American history of balancing struggle with the joy of music. My husband, Craig Smith, is the superb Guitarist on all of my recordings.

One of my original songs ,"I Guess You're Everywhere", from my MYSTIC DREAMS album, is featured in the movie "Like It Or Not!"(Ob ihr wollt oder nicht!) The movie was released on April 30th, 2009 in Germany, where it was produced. It is on DVD in Gemany and available for distribution elsewhere.
